GST Registration for LLP — Why the DSC Is Not Optional
An LLP cannot authenticate a GST application with an Aadhaar OTP. A Class 3 digital signature certificate is mandatory, and it is the one genuine extra cost this entity carries — ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 from a licensed certifying authority, paid to them and not to us.
Everything else follows from incorporation: the certificate, the LLP agreement, and identity documents for every designated partner.
How it works
Send your documents
Pick your service, fill in a short form and pay. Takes about three minutes.
We check before we file
The step that prevents rejections. Address mismatches and missing consent letters get caught here, not by the department three weeks later.
We file and track the ARN
You get the acknowledgement number immediately. We follow it daily and answer any clarification the officer raises.
GSTIN issued in 3–7 days
Certificate delivered digitally, ready for invoices and marketplace onboarding.
What you’ll receive
- The LLP's GSTIN and digital registration certificate
- A document checklist covering the LLP and every designated partner
- Guidance on obtaining a Class 3 DSC if you do not already hold one
- ARN tracking until the certificate is issued
- Clarification replies handled if the officer raises a query
- A GST invoice for our fee
Documents required for GST registration of an LLP
The certificate of incorporation, the LLP agreement, the LLP's PAN, PAN and Aadhaar for every designated partner, a photograph of each, a board resolution or authorisation naming the signatory, proof of the registered office with a recent utility bill, and a cancelled cheque in the LLP's name.
The registered office on the GST application should match what is filed with the MCA. Where it does not, expect a query — the officer can see both.
Class 3 DSC for GST registration: what it is and where to get one
A Class 3 digital signature is a cryptographic certificate issued on a USB token by a certifying authority licensed by the Controller of Certifying Authorities. It is the same class used for MCA and income tax filings, so it has uses beyond this registration.
It must be issued in the name of the designated partner who will sign, and it must be registered against their PAN on the GST portal before the application can be submitted. We handle the portal registration; the certificate itself you buy directly.
Why an LLP cannot use Aadhaar OTP authentication
Aadhaar authentication is available to proprietors and partnership firms because a natural person is the taxable person or is directly authorised by one. An LLP is a body corporate, and the rules require a body corporate to sign with a digital signature.
This is not a portal quirk that can be worked around. Applications from LLPs submitted without a DSC simply cannot be validated, so there is no shortcut to look for here.
LLP GST registration threshold for professional services
Most LLPs supply services, where the threshold is ₹20 lakh in the majority of states and ₹10 lakh in special-category states — not the ₹40 lakh figure that gets quoted for goods.
If your LLP exports services, registration opens the LUT route, which lets you export without paying IGST and then reclaiming it. For an agency billing overseas clients, that is usually the reason to register well before the threshold forces it.
Designated partner responsibilities after the GSTIN is issued
The designated partners are answerable for the LLP's GST compliance. The limited liability the structure gives you is not a shield against a GST demand caused by returns that were never filed.
Practically, this means deciding at registration who owns the monthly filing calendar. LLPs that leave it undefined between two partners are the ones that discover a year of late fees at once.
LLP registered in one state, working with clients in another
Supplying services across state lines does not require a registration in the client's state. You raise an IGST invoice from your registered state and that is the end of it. This surprises LLPs who assume every client state needs its own GSTIN.
What does require a fresh registration is a fixed place of business in another state — an office, a branch, staff working from a leased space. Servicing clients remotely does not create one.
Everything included
- New registration application (REG-01) under the LLP's PAN
- Certificate of incorporation and LLP agreement review
- Board resolution or authorisation naming the authorised signatory
- DSC registration on the GST portal and signing of the application
- Principal place of business documentation review
- Clarification response (REG-04) if required
Who orders this most often
Newly incorporated LLPs
Registered once the LLP PAN is issued, usually alongside the bank account opening.
Professional services LLPs
Consultancies, agencies and design firms crossing the ₹20 lakh services threshold.
LLPs taking on business clients
Corporate customers need a GST invoice to claim input credit, and will ask for the GSTIN before onboarding you as a vendor.
LLPs expanding to another state
A new place of business in another state needs its own registration under the same PAN.
The honest bit about the DSC cost
We do not sell digital signatures and we do not take a margin on them. A Class 3 DSC costs ₹1,000–₹2,000 directly from a licensed certifying authority and is valid for two or three years. If a provider quotes you an all-in GST registration price for an LLP without mentioning it, the cost has been buried rather than removed.
If any designated partner already holds a Class 3 DSC — many do, from MCA filings — you can use it and pay nothing extra. Check before you buy another.

Frequently asked
Is a DSC mandatory for LLP GST registration?+
Yes. An LLP is a body corporate and must sign with a Class 3 digital signature. Aadhaar OTP authentication is not available to it, and there is no workaround.
How much does a Class 3 DSC cost?+
₹1,000–₹2,000 from a licensed certifying authority, valid two to three years. We do not sell them or take a margin. If a designated partner already holds one from MCA filings, use it and pay nothing extra.
What is the GST threshold for an LLP?+
Most LLPs supply services, so ₹20 lakh in most states and ₹10 lakh in special-category states. The ₹40 lakh figure applies to suppliers of goods.
Do all designated partners need to give documents?+
Yes. PAN, Aadhaar and a photograph for each designated partner, plus the incorporation certificate, LLP agreement and the LLP's PAN.
Does the registered office have to match MCA records?+
It should. The officer can see both, and a mismatch between the GST application and the MCA filing is a common reason for a clarification query.
Do we need a GSTIN in every state where we have clients?+
No. Supplying services across state lines is an IGST invoice from your registered state. A separate registration is only needed where you have a fixed place of business.
Can an LLP export services without paying IGST?+
Yes, by filing a Letter of Undertaking. Registration is a prerequisite, which is why exporting LLPs often register well before the turnover threshold requires it.
